APIs.guru MCP server: a directory of public APIs
Updated October 30, 2026
This template turns the APIs.guru directory into an MCP server, so your AI can find public APIs and read the details of their OpenAPI definitions.
What this API does
APIs.guru is an open directory of API definitions written in OpenAPI. It lists providers, services and versions, and it needs no key. It is a good model to see how a directory-style API behaves as a set of MCP tools.
Tools you get
These tools are suggested for this template. Voozeo lists them after the import, and you choose which ones to enable.
getProviders: the list of API providers in the directory.getProvider: the APIs of one provider.getServices: the services of one provider.getAPI: one API, by provider and version.getServiceAPI: one API of a provider that has several services.getMetrics: figures about the directory itself.
Three requests to try
Once the server is connected to your AI, you can ask for example:
- "Which providers in the directory have an API about maps?"
- "List the versions available for the API of a provider I name."
- "Give me the address of the OpenAPI definition of one API and summarize what it covers."
Authentication
No authentication: leave the upstream authentication on "None". The operation that returns the whole directory is not suggested because its answer is too large for an AI conversation.
Create and connect the server
- Select "Create this server" below. Voozeo asks you to sign up, or opens a server already filled in if you are signed in.
- The name, the address of the OpenAPI file, the base URL of the API and the authentication type are filled in. Voozeo imports the file for you.
- Open the "Tools" tab and enable the tools listed above, or the ones you need.
- In the "Connection" tab, copy the address and the key into your AI. See Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or VS Code.
You can change everything afterwards: the template is only a starting point. To go further, read getting started and tools.
